Fellowship Opportunities
St. Luke’s University Health Network offers multiple fellowship opportunities for Emergency Medicine graduates to further their niche training in the world of emergency medicine and beyond.
Addiction Medicine – St. Luke’s University Health Network offers a one-year, ACGME-accredited multidisciplinary Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program, accepting two fellows per year. It is a structured, hands-on, clinical training experience for fellows to become competent in the field of Addiction Medicine and is available to individuals that have completed an ACGME-accredited residency in Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Preventative Medicine, Anesthesiology or Psychiatry. Fellows learn from board-certified physicians from various specialties and are given ample exposure to the multimodal approaches to manage the complexities of addiction. A focus on comprehensive clinical training, educational conferences, weekly lectures, journal clubs, research and cross-disciplinary instruction will play a large part in the learning experience. Over the course of 12 months, fellows will be granted increased autonomy to develop their skills and demonstrate competency in providing care for patients suffering from various substance use disorders.
Emergency Medical Services – This one-year, ACGME accredited program accepts two fellows per year. Throughout the year, our fellows will be trained in multiple areas involving prehospital medicine, including medical direction, event medicine, flight medicine, and more. There will be opportunities to work with residents both in the Emergency Department and those on their EMS rotation. A Physician Response Vehicle will be provided to each fellow to respond to scene calls throughout the multiple EMS agencies in the area. Training will be provided within a multitude of different EMS frameworks, including hospital-based, fire service, as well as municipal and private 3rd service. Primary flight experience will occur with the St. Luke’s University Health Network aircraft operated through a partnership with Geisinger Life Flight.
Pain Medicine – This one-year, ACGME-accredited Multidisciplinary Pain Fellowship Program, accepts two fellows per year. It provides a structured, hands-on, clinical training experience for fellows to become competent in the field of pain medicine. Fellows learn from board-certified physicians from various specialties and are given ample exposure to the multimodal approaches to manage the complexities of pain. A focus on comprehensive clinical training, procedure and device exposure, educational conferences, weekly lectures, monthly journal clubs, research, and cross-disciplinary instruction will be a part of the learning experience. Over the course of 12 months, fellows will be granted increased autonomy to develop their skills and demonstrate competency in managing pain.
Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine – This one-year, ACGME accredited fellowship provides fellows with expertise in managing primary and complex issues in hospice and palliative medicine focusing on symptom management and communication skills. The fellowship offers excellent supervision and numerous opportunities for consultation while also providing a great deal of autonomy. Fellows provide care in a number of medical settings including an inpatient consultation service and an outpatient palliative medicine clinic. In addition, fellows see patients in an inpatient hospice unit and have a year-long continuity experience with a home hospice team.
Sports Medicine – This one-year, ACGME accredited fellowship exposes fellows to a wide array of primary care sports medicine physicians and orthopedic subspecialties. The fellowship goal is to provide comprehensive training in all aspects of the specialty including hands-on experience for ultrasound procedures and in-depth non-operative fracture management. Past fellows have pursued a variety of career options ranging from private practice, orthopedic based practice and university team physician positions.
Surgical Critical Care – This two-year, ACGME accredited fellowship seeks to provide fellows with a leading-edge learning experience through a carefully designed curriculum, clinical exposure and research opportunities. This educational approach results in graduates of the fellowship developing as leaders in the field of Trauma and Critical Care. Faculty is composed of trauma surgeons, surgical, medical, and neuro intensivists who are deeply committed to fellow education and training in a team-based multidisciplinary setting. The fellow will learn vital aspects of managing the critically ill/injured patient. Upon completion of the program, the fellow will be able to demonstrate competency in the areas of diagnostic and treatment plans, patient care management and leadership of a multidisciplinary trauma team.
