Graduate Medical Education

Welcome to St. Luke’s Graduate Medical Education (GME)!

Graduate Medical Education is the period of training where medical school graduates acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to enter private practice or health care in their specialty of choice. The number of years in residency depends on the specialty. In each program, the resident, under the supervision of faculty, assumes progressive levels of responsibility for the care of patient. The goal is for residents to be competent and ready to be independent practitioners at the end of their training. St. Luke’s offers more than 500 resident/fellow positions in over 50 accredited programs, making St. Luke’s the largest major teaching hospital in the area. Teaching staff hold faculty appointments at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and other medical schools. Many of our graduates go on to be employed at St. Luke’s and/or pursue subspecialty training in prestigious fellowships and programs throughout the country, including St. Luke's.
