The SLUHN Network
The St. Luke’s University Hospital Network consists of 15 hospitals and approximately 2,200 employed physicians and advanced providers, centered in the Lehigh Valley of eastern Pennsylvania. The Network has exhibited rapid growth in the past 10 years, with the number of affiliated hospitals increasing from 3 to 15. Cardiac procedural volume has seen strong growth.
In 2014, the year we accepted our first fellow, 1,842 diagnostic catheterizations and 596 coronary interventions were performed in the network.
In calendar year 2023, 3,550 diagnostic catheterizations (a 93% increase over 2014) and 1,032 coronary interventions (a 73% increase from 2014) were performed in the network’s laboratories.
St. Luke’s currently has a staff of 56 cardiologists and 35 advanced practitioners. The general cardiology training program has 12 fellows, increasing to 15 by 2027.
The primary training site will be the cardiac catheterization laboratory at the Bethlehem campus, which is the tertiary hospital site where complex procedures and cardiac surgery are performed. Additional time will be spent in the hybrid OR, the Allentown campus laboratory, and the vascular interventional lab (for fellows interested in obtaining peripheral vascular training), with time for research as permitted.
