Postpartum Care
Nurture yourself and your new arrival.
The postpartum period, the weeks and months after childbirth, is a time of immense adjustment and new beginnings. Take care of yourself, prioritize your baby's well-being and don't be afraid to ask for help. Embrace this special bonding time and create a loving foundation for your new family.
Navigate this special time
Bond with your baby
- Breastfeeding: If you choose to breastfeed, lactation consultants can offer support and guidance. Skin-to-skin contact and rooming-in (keeping your baby in your room) promote bonding and successful breastfeeding. Learn more about breastfeeding
- Safe sleep: Always place your baby on their back on a firm mattress for sleep to reduce the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).
Safety first
- Car seat safety: Every ride, no matter how short, requires your infant to be securely buckled up in a rear-facing car seat in the back seat.
Postpartum depression
- Postpartum aftercare and recovery: Allow your body time to heal. Prioritize rest and healthy eating and listen to your doctor's guidance for recovery.
- Postpartum depression: Mood swings and baby blues are common, but if feelings of sadness, anxiety or hopelessness persist, reach out to your doctor or a mental health professional. Postpartum depression is treatable.
Additional tips
- Healthy eating: Nourish your body with nutritious meals and stay hydrated to support recovery.
- Support system: Lean on your partner, family and friends for emotional and practical support.
- Self-care: Don't neglect your own needs. Take time for relaxation and activities you enjoy.
