Osteopathic Recognition

Osteopathic recognition is a distinction held by programs who have demonstrated a commitment to teaching and assessing Osteopathic Principles and Practice at the graduate medical education level. We are proud to hold continued osteopathic recognition by the ACGME for our Internal Medicine program. Residents will be taught how to incorporate the 4 Osteopathic Tenets into patient care and their clinical experiences and will graduate with competency in Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) and Osteopathic Principles and Practice (OPP).

Osteopathic residents and interested, qualified allopathic residents will be enrolled in this unique program of osteopathic distinctiveness and benefit from a committed faculty and supportive environment created to advance skills in OPP and OMT. The program weaves osteopathic recognition through the program in the form of monthly OMT conferences, journal clubs, practice of OPP and OMT on the inpatient and outpatient sides of medicine, online modules and osteopathic scholarly activity. Residents will be evaluated on their osteopathic skills by specified ACGME Milestones and given feedback throughout their training. Learners in the osteopathic recognition program will have the opportunity to teach allopathic and osteopathic students, residents and attendings.

Residents completing osteopathic recognition will be able to take either the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine exam.
