Our Mission: “Win the Skin!”

St. Luke’s Dermatology Residency seeks to become the region’s top-rated dermatology training program through which you will go forth to “Win the Skin!” – as lifelong learners who make an impact on the specialty of dermatology.

The desire to launch our new training program stems from the following factors:

  • A surging patient population
  • A local shortage of dermatologists
  • An enthusiasm to teach amongst our faculty
  • A unique model of programmatic support from hospital leadership

Our faculty members have embraced this common mission because the better we prepare and educate you the more successful we will be in terms of meeting the dermatological needs of the Lehigh Valley and retaining well-trained talent on the St. Luke's team. Consequently, we actively partner with you from the outset to help you develop the skills you will need to be independent, competent, compassionate practitioners of dermatology. You are also encouraged to develop study habits, leadership skills, and administrative expertise that will help you maintain a lifelong interest in the practice of dermatology.

Mary M. Braden, MD
Program Director, Dermatology

I am a board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist practicing the full scope of care for skin, hair and nail disease for patients of all ages. My subspecialty certification in dermatopathology provided me the training necessary to interpret the results of skin biopsies to help come to the most precise diagnosis and tailor treatment to the needs of the individual patient. My goal is to provide care to my patients as though they were a member of my own family. I enjoy establishing long-term relationships with them. Our skin is our “window to the world” and has a huge impact on patient confidence. Being able to diagnose and treat skin cancer, as well as help patients with challenging skin conditions improve over time and see the impact on their self-esteem is incredibly rewarding.

At the end of your three years, you will be an intellectually curious clinician and an ambassador to the specialty of dermatology. We are proud of the unique resources we offer our next generation of dermatology trainees, and we are thrilled to take the next steps with you on your path to becoming a board-certified dermatologist.
