The Urology Residency Didactics schedule consists of monthly morbidity and mortality conference, biweekly multidisciplinary genitourinary oncology conference, and weekly urology core curriculum (CC) conference.

Our M&M conference is organized by Dr. Abhay Singh. This is a no judgment zone where we can engage in empathy as we learn from opportunities for practice improvement by reviewing our surgical and clinical outcomes.

GU oncology conference is organized by Dr. Frank Tamarkin and contributed to by members of the Pathology, Radiation Oncology, Hematology/Oncology, and Radiology departments. Cases are brought for presentation by members of the division of urology.

The weekly Urology CC conference is organized by Dr. Daniel Verges and lectures are given by members of the urology faculty and by visiting lecturers from multidisciplinary departments throughout SLUHN.  This series is guided by the American Urologic Association Core Curriculum given over 2 years, with each weekly conference covering 2 lectures from the core curriculum series. These are sequenced based on clinical needs and demands of the developing urology resident and efforts have been made to pair these diverse topics into logical groupings. By the time they have graduated, St. Luke’s urology residents will have completed the AUA core curriculum twice over in preparation for clinical practice and for written and oral board examinations.

In addition to teaching rounds on the wards, in the clinic, and in the operating suite, the above lecture series will also be bolstered by Campbell’s Club/AUA updates. In these weekly meetings we will review the AUA update series (and answer the CME/clinical questions included with each unit). This is a lovely and eclectic survey of urologic practice produced by the AUA and developed from peer reviewed literature.

Residents will also be expected to be prepared with interesting clinical cases to present at conference if asked to do so.

While “every day is a school day”—even for the seasoned urologist—our goal is to provide the above lecture series to guide urology residents in their academic pursuits as they enjoy a robust clinical experience during their years here in the Lehigh Valley.
