Congratulations to St. Luke’s medical students, residents and faculty who recently took first place at the Annual Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians Research Day. Research Day in Pennsylvania provides a unique opportunity for future family physicians to keep practice-based research relevant throughout their career.

Research Day began in 1989 and has grown to become a key place for students, residents, and family physicians to present their research to a supportive audience of their peers. This is a unique forum for the entire continuum of family medicine professionals, from medical students to the experienced faculty member, to present original research. Participants meet, exchange experiences, theories, and research data as well as feedback from colleagues. Through the research presentations and poster sessions, Research Day supports all participants to refine their presentation techniques, research methodology, and earn continuing medical education credits.

Awards

Original presentations are grouped into three categories: medical student projects; resident projects; and practicing physician, faculty, and fellow projects. The presentations judged as "best" in each of the categories are awarded a $300 cash prize. In addition, the presenter judged "best overall" is awarded with the Marc Connelley, MD award. This award, initiated in 1991, honors the memory of PAFP member and past participant of Research Day, Marc Connelley, MD, who was killed while serving in the Persian Gulf War.

Poster awards include categorical awards in Quality Improvement and Case Study as well as traditional research design.
