Urologist discussing results with patient

Overview

At St. Luke’s Center for Urology, we’re dedicated to treating conditions of the male reproductive system and the urinary tract for both women and men. As the largest and most experienced urology practice in the region, we pride ourselves on offering cutting-edge screening, diagnostic, and treatment services to ensure you receive the best care possible.

Most common conditions we treat

St. Luke’s Center for Urology can diagnose and help manage an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a common condition as men age. Although not cancerous, BPH can cause urinary issues when the prostate presses on the urethra. It is typically not serious, with about half of men over the age of 75 experience symptoms.

When symptoms become bothersome, treatments like the UroLift® System can restore normal urinary function. Zachariah Goldsmith, MD, of St. Luke’s Center for Urology, a designated UroLift® Centers of Excellence Physician, has advanced training and experience with this treatment. Incontinence is the loss of bladder control, affecting both men and women of all ages. The urologists at St. Luke’s Center for Urology specialize in treating all types, including stress incontinence, urge incontinence, and incontinence caused by neurological conditions.

Incontinence is not just a natural part of aging, childbirth, or prostate surgery—effective, less invasive treatments are available. Severity varies from occasional leaks when coughing or sneezing to sudden urges that prevent reaching a toilet in time. If it affects daily life, consult a urologist. Lifestyle changes or medical treatments can often provide relief.

Continence treatment options we offer:
  • Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation
  • Biofeedback
  • Sacral Nerve Stimulation (Interstim™)
    • Among the more advanced and successful surgical interventions available is sacral nerve stimulation (SNS). The minimally invasive procedure involves the insertion of a device called a neurostimulator in the lower back. The neurostimulator works by sending mild electrical pulses to the sacral nerve to control bowel, rectum and bladder function.
    • The outpatient procedure can be performed in less than an hour under mild sedation. It involves the insertion of InterStim, a neurostimulator device that is inserted under the skin, usually in the upper buttocks.
  • Urodynamics
  • Behavioral Training Techniques
  • Pre-op Prostatectomy Counseling
  • Follow-up Biofeedback After Prostatectomy

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is when a man cannot get or keep an erection firm enough for intercourse. It’s common but treatable. Our physicians can diagnose and treat ED so you can enjoy a satisfying sex life again.

ED can signal an underlying health issue like heart disease or poorly controlled diabetes. Treating the cause may reverse ED—and potentially save your life. If not, medications or other treatments may help.

Your doctor will recommend the best treatment based on the cause, severity, and your overall health. They will explain the risks, benefits, and consider both your and your partner’s preferences.

We offer a wide range of treatment options, including oral medications, non-oral medications, testosterone replacement, penis pumps, blood vessel surgery, and penile implants. If ED is linked to stress, anxiety, or depression, psychological counseling may also be recommended.

Kidney stones are hard mineral deposits that form in the kidneys and can cause pain and urinary issues. At St. Luke’s Center for Urology, we offer advanced medical and surgical treatments to manage and remove kidney stones with the least invasive approach possible. Our state-of-the-art technology allows our urologists to perform highly precise procedures when needed.

Non-surgical management:
  • Monitoring and aid in the passage of stones
  • Preventing or reduce recurrence
  • Managing pain and other symptoms
Surgical procedures:
  • Ureteroscopy – Uses a small telescope (less than a quarter of an inch) inserted through the urethra to locate and break up stones in the urinary tract.
  • Lithotripsy – Directs sound waves to break up kidney stones.
  • Percutaneous surgery – Involves a small incision (usually no bigger than an inch) in the back to remove kidney stones directly from the kidney.
