Why Choose Us – Top 10 Reasons

SacredHeart

Autonomy
In a team-based care model, YOU are responsible for your panel of patients, with support from providers and staff that comprise your team. This ensures reliable communication, continuity, and improved patient outcomes.

Practice Variety
Through your experiences in one of our two continuity office sites, your inpatient medicine rotations, and the time spent in Lifestyle Medicine and Community Medicine (and many more), you’ll have exposure to a variety of practice environments. This will allow you to build your vision of what most appeals to you for your future practice!

Education
Spend 4 hours of protected academic time each week building the body of knowledge that will prepare you not only for your board examinations, but for a career of practice. Through small group learning, evidence-based journal clubs, procedural workshops and traditional didactics, you’ll fill your clinical toolbox to the brim!

A Path to YOUR future
With accredited fellowships in Sports Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Care, and Geriatric Medicine, along with longitudinal education in Lifestyle Medicine and a rich exposure to St. Luke’s Physician Group practices during your training, you’ll have the opportunity to find the path that you’ll take not only through your training, but beyond!

We’re proud to offer opportunities for continued education or practice employment to the physicians that we work very hard to train.

Lifestyle Medicine
By keeping our patients healthier we will actively reduce future health care costs. Our residents will receive clinical training in Lifestyle Medicine that will prepare them to counsel patients regarding evidence-based lifestyle interventions for disease prevention and treatment. Upon graduation, our residents will have the opportunity to sit for Lifestyle Medicine Boards and become certified LM physicians.

The Lehigh Valley
A vibrant and thriving economic powerhouse, the Lehigh Valley is comprised of several metropolitan areas including Allentown, Easton, Bethlehem and Phillipsburg. Residents enjoy access to a wide variety of restaurants, shopping venues, cultural centers, minor league sporting venues, a wine trail and more. A low cost of living and beautiful outdoor offerings make the Lehigh Valley an ideal location.

Family
At St. Luke’s, Family Medicine isn’t called Family merely to reflect the full- spectrum nature of our field. At our program, we create an atmosphere in which every member of the team, including our patients, feels the warmth of a family environment. We strive to care for each other, inside and outside of the clinical setting, because we recognize that success is built on a foundation of relationships.

Collaboration
Our Family Medicine residency at Anderson is one of several new programs opening on the campus, and opportunities for collaboration are incorporated into the DNA of each program. Whether it’s crossover lectures with the Psychiatry residency, collaborative research with the Neurology residency, or shared nutrition journal club with the Internal Medicine residency, you’ll learn a multidisciplinary approach to medicine and education.

Work-Life
Taking care of our residents wellbeing is equally as important as training them. St. Luke’s has a policy that monitors the wellness of our residents by teaching specific skills to promote resiliency, physician wellbeing and burnout prevention during training and beyond. Our residents are assessed by taking the Work and Wellbeing survey and the Abbreviated Maslach Burnout Inventory at the beginning of residency and every 6 months thereafter.
