I emphasize preventative medicine and holistic care in my medical practice as a family medicine physician at St. Luke’s University Health Network. My training as an osteopathic physician placed a strong emphasis on the interconnection of mind, body and spirit and I try to incorporate this as much as possible into my practice.
As a family physician, I encounter and manage many common medical conditions such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia and diabetes. I aim to help my patients address these medical problems through lifestyle modifications in addition to medications. It’s easy to tell patients they need to eat a healthy diet and exercise, but I think it is important to be mindful that this looks different for every patient. I like to sit down and set realistic and incremental goals with my patients, so they can make long-lasting changes and take pride in the progress they are making to improve their health.
I am also very passionate about mental health care and addressing the stigma surrounding it. I try to help my patients recognize that depression and anxiety are just as real and impactful on quality of life as any other medical condition and there is strength in recognizing when you are struggling with mental health issues and asking for help. I aim to create a safe and open environment with my patients, so they feel comfortable discussing mental health.
As a pre-med student, one of my physician mentors instilled in me that it is important to treat our patients as we would want our family members treated by their healthcare providers. This is a sentiment that has stuck with me through medical school and residency, and now in my career as a physician.
Outside work, I enjoy staying active by running and swimming, but I also enjoy lazy days watching television with my cat and spending time with my family and friends.
