The lessons my patients teach me, stay with me forever. Lesson #1: Don’t let fear win.
In addition to a strong clinical focus, I have a passion for cancer patient survivorship. I studied the multiplicity of experiences of cancer survivors and have produced award-winning blogs for the American Society of Clinical Oncologists (ASCO) and “Cure” Magazine. Additionally, I collaborated with PBS39 to produce an Emmy-nominated documentary, “Close to Home: Cancer Survivorship,” which featured the stories and advice of local cancer survivors.
I am the founder of the Catherine Boulay Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable organization I established in honor of my late grandmother who passed away from cancer when I was young. The Catherine Boulay Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life for those with cancer and their families by sharing love, kindness, support and wisdom from those who have shared similar journeys.
I am a board-certified, fellowship-trained gynecologic oncologist with more than 25 years’ experience. I received my medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed an internship and residency at Magee-Women’s Hospital, part of UPMC. I completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center at Penn State College of Medicine.
My professional experience includes holding numerous leadership roles and stewarding education and research endeavors. I have served as principal investigator for clinical trials, co-chair and chair of IRB and Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement groups, respectively. I previously served as assistant clinical professor for Penn State University.
Professional honors have included CREOG National Teaching Awards, Felix Rutledge Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the Berlex Faculty Development Course. I am published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology and Clinics of North America.
I am an accomplished vocalist, having recorded multiple albums and performed in numerous venues including Miller Symphony Hall, PPL Center, Coca-Cola Park and Penn’s Peak. I am currently working on a new album, titled “Joy.”
In his spare time, Dr. Boulay enjoys furniture making, skiing, sailing and history. He resides in Allentown with his wife, Julie. They have two daughters.

The Patient Satisfaction Rating is an average of all responses to the care provider related questions from our
nationally recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Patients that are treated in outpatient or hospital environments may receive different surveys, and the volume of responses will vary by question.
Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score.
The comments are submitted by patients and reflect their views and opinions. The comments are not endorsed by and do
not necessarily reflect the views of St. Luke’s University Health Network.
“Everything went well and that is always a relief. When my visit was over and I was checking out with one of the staff, I was asked if I wanted to continue my following visits with the survival care team. I didn't expect that, but I understand the protocol since I'm 3 years past my diagnosis and surgery - and NED. I told the staff member that I prefer continuing my follow-ups with Dr. Boulay, since he is the specialist I've been seeing from my first treatment and then surgery.”
