I believe we should give back to our community and treat all our patients as individuals with their own personal needs and cares. My surgical practice reflects this in our professional and compassionate service.
My practice is dedicated to the surgical treatment of a variety of common diseases—bowel disease, hernias of the abdominal wall and groin, gallbladder surgery, thyroid and parathyroid disease, reflux surgery and malignant and benign breast issues. I have experience in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. I also perform colonoscopies and upper endoscopies, for routine screening and for bowel diseases.
I am a board-certified surgeon and an active member of multiple surgical societies including the American College of Surgeons, The Society of Surgical Oncology and the Society of the American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgery (Minimally Invasive Surgery). I am active on several national committees to improve quality of care and global outreach. I have participated in several international medical projects in Africa, Haiti and South America as well as here in the Lehigh Valley.
I earned a Master’s in Education for Health Professionals from the Johns Hopkins University School of Education and I am a clinical professor (adjunct) at the Temple/St. Luke’s School of Medicine. I also teach for the DeSales University physician assistant program and for Johns Hopkins University School of Education.
I pursued a career in surgery as a practical way to bring wholeness and healing to our world and to serve my community in a very meaningful way. I have served as a surgeon here in the States, as well as in developing countries. My goal is to deliver high quality, up-to-date surgical care to our patients and to make our patients and their families feel cared for in a professional and caring way, as part of our family at St. Luke’s.
Having raised three children over my twenty years in the Lehigh Valley, I have been involved in many community service projects, including the Women’s 5k Classic breast cancer run, and the Flint Hill Farm Educational Center. I serve on the board at Grace Montessori School in Allentown.

“I have so much respect for Dr McDonald. There aren't enough words to describe her. Such a loving caring person and knows so much about breast cancer. I owe my life to her. Dr McDonald went above and beyond the call of duty and saved my life because she never gave up on me. I will miss her so terribly.”

“I am sad that Dr McDonald is leaving her position and very upset that St Luke's did not value her enough to find a way for her to stay with the network.”
