St. Luke's Hamburg Primary Care
I have spent nearly three decades evaluating and caring for patients with complex health challenges and have been fortunate to maintain relationships with many patients for more than 20 years. I believe in caring for the whole patient and try to gain an understanding of my patients’ background and social context. I practice evidence-based medicine in my approach to evaluating and treating my patients.
I am board-certified in internal medicine and clinical informatics (a specialty that focuses on incorporating information technology into clinical practice) who joined the St. Luke’s University Health Network in 2018. I have practiced in a variety of clinical settings. I spent 7 years in the US Air Force, 3 years as a resident and 4 years as a faculty member of the internal medicine residency program. I was in private practice for 4 years during which I took care of my patients in the office as well as the hospital, ICU, rehabilitation and nursing home.
Subsequently, I worked again as a teaching physician in an internal medicine program where I taught residents and medical students in both inpatient and outpatient settings. During this time period, I also led quality improvement for our faculty clinical practice and helped lead the implementation of the electronic medical record across a health system. I currently practice at St. Luke’s Hamburg Primary care where I focus on caring for my patients in an outpatient setting.
Outside of work, I am a husband and father of 4 adult children. I enjoy cooking, winemaking, homebrewing, making mustard, sauerkraut, kimchi, and hot sauce from scratch. I also play classical guitar and like to run on local trails.

“Both the doctor and the rest of the office were all very polite from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. He addressed and listened to all the concerns I had, and helped me get set with a new endocrinologist within the network as I had previously gotten care through another network. A simple issue I had been having was impacted wax, and I have been trying to take care of it for quite some time but my previous doctors (outside If St Luke's) had done nothing about it. One doctor I had seen even agitated my ear by pressing into the wax, and when I asked about how to get it out she did not really offer much advice. After a quick physical, Dr Sheirer (I apologize for misspelling his name) he immediately tried to take care of the wax then and there before telling me exactly what medicine to use to take care of it at home, and scheduled an additional appointment to make sure the issue was solved. I was very happy with the care I received at this office.”

“Jorge Scheirer is a trusted physician who listens, explains and follows up with results and answers. He has been my primary physician for a number of years and has never let me down. We discuss my health issues and recommended steps before proceeding. I really apply that and him immensely.”
