As a hip and knee surgeon, I meet patients at all stages of life. I see patients with and without arthritis, before and after joint replacements. I believe in a patient centered approach to elective hip and knee replacement. I feel strongly that my job as a physician and surgeon is to give all available treatment plans and allow the patient to be the captain of their own ship. Through this approach I enjoy getting to know my patients and working collaboratively in the decision-making process of non-operative care all the way through exploring the options of partial or total joint replacement.
I am an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the treatment of osteoarthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, inflammatory arthritis, deformity correction, avascular necrosis of the hip/knee and failed previous joint replacements. I perform partial/total knee and total hip replacements. I also have extensive training in the revision of hip/knee replacements and perform complex hip and knee reconstruction surgeries.
I attended medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. After medical school I completed a 5-year orthopedic surgical residency at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. During training I worked with well-renowned leaders in hip and knee arthroplasty throughout the Philadelphia/Baltimore/Boston areas and developed a passion for the ability of hip and knee replacements to restore function and improving patient’s lives. After residency, I pursued a fellowship in complex hip and knee reconstruction at University of Maryland and the Rubin Institute of Advanced Orthopedics. During this additional year of training, I further honed my skills in complex knee reconstruction, complex hip reconstruction, revision hip and knee reconstruction, partial knee replacement and robotic assisted joint replacements.
During my free time I enjoy spending time with my wife and the new addition of our daughter. I am an avid college football fan who bleeds blue and white, WE ARE. I’m also a car enthusiast who enjoys the scenic drives around the Lehigh Valley area. As a native of the Lehigh Valley, growing up and going to school in Whitehall, I am excited to return to the area and serve the community who I grew up with.

“I received a cortisone injection in my hip and a Visco injection in my knee on 8/26/24. The female PA that was there initially was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional as she went about her work preparing me for the injections. Then Dr. Gilson arrived, and we chatted about my condition and what to expect (as I had reviewed some of this with the PA too). He mentioned about possible followup injections in three + months as I should notify the office ahead of time to prepare for them. Everything went well. We mentioned long term possible scenarios too.”

“This was a routine 3-month post surgery checkup. So a lot of your survey questions don't apply. Dr. Gilson is a great doctor. I have zero complications from my hip replacement last June and have returned to full activity. The staff at his office (and I must say, all the St. Luke's offices I visit) are courteous, efficient and professional. I love St. Luke's.”
