Diabetes & Endocrinology
Expert care and personalized treatment for diabetes and endocrine disorders.
Specialized treatment and education for patients with diabetes and endocrine system disorders.
Overview
As part of the St. Luke’s University Health Network, we provide adults, teens and children access to the latest technology and the highest level of care. Our fellowship-trained endocrinologists diagnose and treat known or suspected endocrine disorders caused by hormone imbalances, including diabetes. Through medication, education and support, we help you:
- Embrace a healthier lifestyle that includes a nutritious diet and regular exercise
- Minimize your dependence on insulin or other medications
- Reduce your risk of life-altering complications
Conditions we treat
Type I and Type II Diabetes
Nearly one in 10 Americans has diabetes, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). More alarming, more than a one-third of adults in the United States have prediabetes – a condition that puts one at risk for developing diabetes – and the majority don’t even know it.
Our endocrinologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of both Type 1 & Type II diabetes. Our diabetic educators teach you to manage your diabetes whether you are under the care of our endocrinologists or your primary care physician.
Women who have diabetes and are pregnant or would like to become pregnant have special health care needs. Healthy mothers and babies is St. Luke’s goal.
Services offered include:
Other Endocrine Disorders
As board-certified endocrinologists, our physicians specialize in glands and the hormones they produce. These hormones help to control many activities in the body including metabolism, respiration, sensory perception, movement, reproduction, food absorption, growth and development. Hormone imbalances are the underlying reason for a wide range of medical conditions.
Among the conditions we diagnose and treat are:
- Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism
- Hypocalcemia and hypercalcemia
- Disorders of the pituitary and parathyroid glands
- Disorders of the testes or ovaries
- Disorders of the hypothalamus
Educate yourself.
Our diabetes experts work closely with patients and their families to develop the skills needed to manage the condition. We encourage patients to meet a diabetes educator as soon as they are diagnosed, whether their illness is managed by one of our endocrinologists or the patient’s primary care physician. Our certified diabetic educators are either registered nurses or registered dietitians who have obtained additional certification in diabetes education.
To contact the Diabetes Education Center, call 484-526-3025.
Our educators meet with each patient individually to provide information about diabetes, its treatment and its complications. This includes:
- Training patients and caregivers to use diabetes devices, such as blood glucose meters, insulin pens and pumps, and continuous glucose monitors
- Providing nutrition education
- Teaching problem-solving strategies to deal with potential problems
Attend a class.
In addition, patients participate in small group classes, where they receive additional education and the support of their peers. Classes and support services include:
- Living well with diabetes
- Insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor training
- Nutrition counseling for diabetes & prediabetes
- Diabetes support group for living well class participants
Our Center Valley location also offers on-site health care services, such as podiatry and eye care.
