Second Recovery Is for Everyone Walk on September 16

September 14, 2023

St. Luke’s Penn Foundation will host its second “Recovery Is for Everyone Walk” on Saturday, September 16 at 9 am in celebration of National Recovery Month. There is no cost to participate in the walk, but registration is required.

Observed nationally, Recovery Month increases awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders and celebrates individuals who recover. It also serves to reduce the stigma and misconceptions that cloud public understanding of these diseases, potentially discouraging people from seeking help.

“There's still a lot of work that needs to be done to spread awareness and advocate and reduce stigma around recovery so we can bring it out of the shadows to let people know that we're here, there's support and treatment available and there are multiple pathways to recovery,” says Ryan Schweiger, CPS, CRS, CPRP, Behavioral Health Community Liaison Specialist with St. Luke’s Penn Foundation.

The 1.7-mile “Recovery Is for Everyone Walk” will begin and end at the Hope 23 Festival site at 741 N. County Line Road in Souderton. The first 100 individuals to register will receive a special swag bag at the walk. Participants can also register the day of the walk beginning at 8:15 am.

Schweiger says voices of hope, support, experience and recovery need to be amplified because when it comes to mental and substance use disorders, silence is dangerous.

“There is a great need for recovery services across all demographics and sectors in our communities. It is for every person, every family and every community. We need to speak up and be open about this, so others may feel more confident and comfortable entering into recovery,” he explains.

Following the walk, participants can enjoy free food, music, kids’ activities, giveaways and more at Hope Festival 23, a separate event at the location that is sponsored by Sweatshirt of Hope.
