Essential Tremor: What is it? Who gets it? How is it treated?

If you occasionally have jittery hands after too much caffeine or during a stressful moment, it’s unlikely you suffer from a brain-based abnormality known as Essential Tremor. But if you have frequent involuntary shaking of both of your hands while holding a newspaper, drinking from a cup or glass or feeding yourself, you may be suffering from Essential Tremor (ET).

Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a brain disorder that affects movement. It can cause shaking, slowness or stiffness in the hands, legs, jaw and tongue. It can also affect thinking and memory and can cause dementia at later stages. In America, some 1 million people are affected by PD; 10 million have been diagnosed worldwide.
