Bond with-baby at YOGA at St Lukes Baby Me Support Center

January 18, 2018

The new St. Luke’s Baby & Me Support Center is now hosting yoga classes for babies and moms or caregivers. The classes, held at St. Luke’s Baby & Me Support Center at 1425 Eighth Avenue in Bethlehem, will cost $15 per class and will focus on movement, bonding, flexibility and helping moms get back into shape after pregnancy.

Infants as young as 6 weeks can benefit from the restorative power of yoga. Not only does the movement and stretching in yoga promote flexibility, it can also relieve colic, constipation and gas, help establish a sleeping pattern and nurture a feeling of safety and security, essential for a baby’s emotional and physical development. One of the biggest benefits for mom, babies and caregivers is that yoga gives everyone the chance to relax and focus on being together, which helps reduce stress in what can be a stressful time.

  • Baby & Me Yoga classes will be held Mondays from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm for babies 6 weeks to 2 years and moms, dads or caregivers. The all-levels class will focus on partnering with babies in a series of yoga poses to aid in stretching and strengthening growing muscles, digestion and sleep.
  • Mom & Baby Yoga classes, designed for babies 6 weeks to crawling, combine postnatal yoga for moms with gentle stretching and movement for babies. These classes will be held on Thursdays from 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm. The Mom & Baby class adds a fitness component for postpartum moms seeking to strengthen, stretch and heal their bodies after childbirth. Moms flow through a yoga practice and partner with babies through sequences. The Mom & Baby class also gives new moms the opportunity to meet and support each other while sharing experiences of new motherhood.

The yoga classes for babies and moms or caregivers are part of St. Luke’s commitment to support moms and families as they get to know and care for their babies. A baby blanket, a few toys and a desire to cuddle are the only equipment required!
