St. Luke’s Corks & Forks to Benefit Monroe Schools

STROUDSBURG, PA – Participants in the St. Luke’s Monroe Campus’s first signature fundraiser will not only enjoy a casual evening full of great food, drinks and fun, but they will also help strengthen their community.

The St. Luke’s Monroe Campus – which opened in October 2016 – will hold Corks & Forks on Saturday, October 21, at Mountain View Vineyard in Stroudsburg from 6 to 9 pm.

“It is going to be a casual social event with great food and drinks, where guests can meet staff from the hospital and learn more about our community health programs,” says Lori Coursen, Network Director of Special Events.

During Corks & Forks, community members will meet hospital physicians, staff and administrators. They will also learn about the work of the St. Luke's Monroe Campus's Community Health Department.

Funds raised from Corks & Forks will benefit the Community Health Department’s “Adopt a School” Program, which is a network-wide initiative at St. Luke’s. 

“Across our network, we collaborate with local schools and other community agencies to provide support to address medical, dental and vision care; mental health treatment and promotion; nutrition education; and literacy and career mentoring,” explains Todd Nemura, St. Luke’s Monroe Campus Community Health Liaison & Network Healthy Living Manager. “Starting these programs at the elementary school level builds a foundation of health and wellness so participants can become fit for life.”

The goals for the program are based on the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA). All non-profit hospitals are required to perform a CHNA every three years to identify health needs faced by residents within their communities, especially among vulnerable populations.

Among the priorities of the “Adopt a School” Program are to:

• Improve access to care and reduce health disparities;
• Promote healthy lifestyles and prevent chronic disease; and
• Improve child and adolescent health.
